Florida toll violations, including Sunpass violations, can be a very serious problem. Most people don't know that toll violations, if not handled timely and properly, become full-blown moving violations, just like a speeding ticket.
There are several ways to end up faced with a toll violation or Sunpass violation, some of which are entirely innocent. These include:

The Process
When Sunpass decides to issue a toll violation, a Uniform Traffic Citation will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. From that time, the owner has 30 days to contact Sunpass to resolve the matter without injury to his or her license. After 30 days, the toll violation or Sunpass violation is sent to the County Court, where it becomes a moving violation, carrying a substantial fine, and 3 points on the person's license, if convicted. If the owner does not respond within 45 days after the toll violation or Sunpass violation has been sent to the County Court, then the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles will suspend the owner's license.
The Problem
The problem with this system is that Sunpass is notoriously bad about sending the toll violation or Sunpass violation citation or ticket to the person accused of committing the violation. Often times the toll violation or Sunpass violation citations are sent to the wrong address, or are sent too late, or are never sent at all. In these situations, persons charged with toll violations or Sunpass violations do not find out about them until their licenses have been suspended, and the toll tickets or Sunpass tickets are very late.

At this point, it is too late to pay the toll violations or Sunpass violations. Doing so will cause the person's license to be revoked virtually for life.
